Joining the ranks of Coach and Chanel, the Prada Group announced that its subsidiary labels will no longer use animal fur in the creation of clothing, footwear or accessories. The move was made following a year-long talk with the Fur Free Alliance (FFA), a coalition of over 50 animal protection organizations from more than 40 countries.
In a statement, the luxury company affirmed that Prada, Miu Miu, Church’s and Car Shoe brands will immediately forfeit the use of any animal fur in designs or new products. “The Prada Group is committed to innovation and social responsibility,” said Miuccia Prada. ““Focusing on innovative materials will allow the company to explore new boundaries of creative design while meeting the demand for ethical products.” Furthermore, instead of burning the already-existing fur goods, Prada will sell existing items with fur “until quantities will be exhausted.”
“The Fur Free Alliance applauds the Prada Group for going fur-free”, exclaimed Joh Vinding, FFA Chairman. FFA program manager Brigit Oele underlined the sentiment, noting that “Prada Group was one of the fastest companies to go fur-free once positive dialogue began a little more than a year ago. The Fur Free Retailer Program includes 1,000 companies, showing that this global movement is gaining momentum fast, and it’s very unlikely that fur will ever return as an acceptable trend. This is a great day for animals!””
Prada’s Spring/Summer 2020 womenswear collection will be the Group’s first presentation to uphold the fur-free mentality.
